18 of the Most Romantic Travel Destinations in Texas
When it comes to romance, Texas has its pick of settings.
South Padre Island
A Texan summer often calls for some relief from a dip in the water and a sunset on the sand. From Galveston to Port Aransas, the different beaches in Texas vary greatly: Some are better suited for boating and watching the ships cross the channel, while others are made for relaxing and listening to the waves.
On South Padre Island, the blue-water beach may turn into a party hub during spring break, but during the off season it's a great place to go camping on the seashore.
Galveston
The Galvez is a historic hotel directly on the Seawall with ocean views and a great restaurant and pool. The Galvez has a full-service spa where couples can enjoy massages and champagne. The Tremont House has oversized suites for couples and a rooftop deck that serves well-mixed cocktails and a great view of town. The luxurious San Luis Resort is great for a nearby getaway with all of the amenities you need.
Possum Kingdom Lake
Obviously, Texans are proud of the vast acreage that allows for horse ranching, camping and (for some) hunting. But that's not all that can be done in the state's rural parts. We also have boutique bed and breakfasts with personal hiking trails, vineyards that offer made-in-Texas wine tastings, horseback riding and anything else you could hope to do outdoors.
At the Possum Kingdom State Park Lake, boats pass through the opening known as Hell's Gate. The cliff formations make a cove in the lake, which is a part of the Brazos River.
Fredericksburg
Located within the Fredericksburg Herb Farm are the The Sunday Haus Cottages, small quaint lodging buildings surrounded by a new spa facility (Nature's Spa) and restaurant The Farm Haus Bistro. Or, go zen at the Tres Lunas Resort in Fredericksburg. The secluded country ranch offers yoga classes and specialty packages. Enchanted Rock state nature areas between Fredericksburg and Llano in the Texas Hills Country.
Austin
Not too many city ideas were included, since our major cities' dining destinations are typically go-to spots for many couples. Although a romance-tip roundup isn't complete without an iconic activity in San Antonio, a colorful peacock-filled park near Austin and a stop-and-smell-the-roses staple in Dallas.
In Austin, Scenic Mount Bonnell is a great place to enjoy nature views and a good hike. Mayfield Park is packed with peacocks that wander around the property. There's also a historic cottage that's ideal for a small party or a picnic for two.
