After the assassination of her husband President John F. Kennedy in 1963, Jackie Kennedy was portrayed in the media as a graceful, reserved widow. But not everyone remembers that after the death of her second husband, Greek shipping mogul Aristotle Onassis, in 1975, Jackie also enjoyed a healthy dating life in the years before her own death in 1994.

Now, writer James Hart, 67, is pulling back the curtain on Jackie's post-Aristotle love life in his new memoir, Lucky Jim. At the time, James was married to singer Carly Simon, who was close friends with Jackie.

In his memoir, James claims that in 1991, Jackie had a special request for her 62nd birthday. "We told her, 'Look, we don't want to do the usual dumb thing. What would you like for your birthday?'" he writes.

A few days later Jackie called and asked Carly if it was true that James was friends with Alec Baldwin. When Carly said it was, Jackie asked if Alec could be her date to the theater on her birthday (at the time, he was 33).

Baldwin must not have minded the age difference, because when James called to ask him out on Jackie's behalf, Alec responded, "I'm there."

"I was surprised by the openness of the request, but I acted as though there was nothing unusual about it," James writes. "Alec was most shocked of all, but there wasn't a moment's hesitation, even though he had just met Kim Basinger."

When James asked Alec if he was sure, his response was reportedly simple: "'Are you kidding? Jackie Kennedy wants to go on a date? Of course.'"

James told Fox News that Alec "was more of her escort than a date," but that it was "such a fun evening." It's just too bad there were no photographers on hand to capture the magical moment!
