It's the latest domestic chore to die at the hands of technology: Lawn-mowing can officially be filed under "chores you never have to do again if you don't want to."

Robotic lawn mowers like the Honda Miimo ($2,499); Robomow ($1,299); and Worx Landroid ($999) are to grass what the Roomba and its ilk are to carpet. The programmable machines have rotating blades at adjustable heights, remote controls (via phone app or separately), and built-in sensors that prevent them from mowing over, say, a child's toy. Barriers created by low-voltage wires keep the robo-mower corralled within your lawn.

The Miimo can run for about 30 to 70 minutes at a time before returning to its docking station to recharge. It's also equipped with an anti-theft measure—an alarm that goes off when it's picked up—and deposits clippings from the job onto the lawn as fertilizer.
