Beth Chapman, costar of the A&E series Dog the Bounty Hunter, is fighting Stage 2 throat cancer, and is opening up about how her health issues have changed her outlook on life. She is telling her story in an A&E special, Dog and Beth: Fight of their Lives, which airs November 27.

In a preview clip from their upcoming special, posted by People, Beth reveals that after she got diagnosed, it took her a week to book a plane ticket to Los Angeles, where she was getting treated, because she couldn't accept she had cancer. She also took a while to tell her children about how serious her health was.

Now, Beth hopes sharing her story will encourage others to pay attention to their health. "Early detection is key. I probably had the scratchy throat for a year," she told the magazine in an interview. "When something feels wrong, you need to get it checked immediately. That's the lesson here. Also, everyone needs to pay attention to what you put in your body. Your diet is so important."

Her husband, Duane "Dog" Chapman, said he'll always stay by her side, no matter what happens. "When we made a pledge many years ago. I said I'd love her in sickness and in health until death do us part," he told People. "And that truth has really, really come alive in my mind. And I have to stand on that; I gave her an oath that I would love her forever. And thank God it's not till death do us part at this point."

"Cancer is a terrible, deadly disease that can take away your faith and your hope," Beth told the magazine. "You've got to fight it like hell. You can't let it overtake your body — but you also can't let it overtake your brain and your spirit. And I believe in the power of prayer."
