Was one of your New Year's resolutions to go on a road trip? Or maybe visit a national park you've never heard of? Here's a little bit of incentive: The National Parks Service is offering free admission to all visitors for 10 dates in 2017—including two weekends in April.

While the National Parks Service has over 400 sites they manage, only 137 sites typically charge entrance fees, which will be waived on these 10 days this year:

  • January 16—Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • February 20—Presidents Day
  • April 15-16 and 22-23—Weekends of National Park Week
  • August 25—National Park Service Birthday
  • September 30—National Public Lands Day
  • November 11-12—Veterans Day Weekend

In addition to these dates, park entrance is free year round for active duty military, citizens with a permanent disability and any fourth grade student who signs up for a Every Kid in a Park pass. U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are at least 62 can apply for a $10 lifetime pass to the National Parks system and everyone else can sign up for an $80 annual pass to gain entry to 2,000 federal recreation sites.
